YouTube: The War Between Views and Comments Vs. Subscribers
For anyone who has a computer, you may know that You-Tube has been the fastest growing video site online.
8 out of 10 people actually have a You-Tube account, (or have had at one time) , and that's saying a lot considering that the only other Social network with that high of a sign-up ratio is Facebook - beating out Twitter for online accounts.
Do you think it has anything to do with wanting that "15 minutes of fame"?
The fact is, you don't actually have to have an account to watch videos on You-Tube. You can surf and look up videos and watch to your heart's content. However, in order to upload your own videos, (hence, that 15 minutes, or 8 minutes of You-Tube fame), to comment on other people's videos, and "subscribe" to a Channel you must have an account.
What is a channel? A channel basically is your own You-Tube page that showcases YOUR videos.
Now anyone that has uploaded their own video hopes that within the first 15 minutes of uploading, that they don't get that dreaded email telling them that their video has been blocked because of Copyright issues for Music or for video content.
If that happens, your video cannot be seen. (Unless it's semi-blocked, only in some countries, which it might as well be 100% blocked because it's usually blocked in the country you live in !) If you get too many of these infractions, you may just log on one day to find your account and all of your hard work (videos) have been permanently deleted.
Now brings us to the war between video views and video comments.
Many believe that the total number of video views is the most important, while others believe that the total number of video comments is more important (per video). All this, of course , leads up to the real reason ANY of those is important. Research shows, that is something called "Subscribers".
When you Subscribe to another You-Tuber, you get updates on their newest uploaded videos. However, some You-Tubers use this subscriber area in the wrong way. There is a site where you can actually Buy (purchase) subscribers to bring the value of your videos up to the top of the viewing roster, which is completely the wrong way to go about it.
To gain popularity this way on You-Tube should be highly discouraged, and should be grounds for deletion.
The correct way to get views and comments on your channel and videos, research shows, takes a lot of time and a lot of persistance for it to pay off. It is not merely a popularity contest or based purely on loyalty from friends.
A You -Tuber has to go out there, and faithfully watch videos, and actually comment on them. A lot of people don't, or don't want to for whatever reason. Same thing with that little "like" thumb. Most people are pretty reluctant to click it, but it means a lot to the active vidders. I actually came across this hilarious video, while researching , and it is so appropriate for this situation - it might actually make you giggle a bit: Why don't I have more Youtube Subscribers?
It's important to always be nice when leaving comments, even it's to leave a constructive criticism.
The whole point is, that these views, coupled with the comments you leave, and the number of "likes" your video gets, all get logged electronically by You-Tube's main Analytics, and all of it goes into figuring whether you end up as a top featured You-Tuber.
So if you are active in the You-Tube community, doing your part viewing, and commenting nicely, Subscribing to other people (because you like their videos as well), then maybe one day your video (s) might be "featured", and ou may be ranked one of the higher up You -Tube channels -
All of it would be for the right reasons... not because we wanted it to be a popularity contest. But because the whole idea of watching videos was why we were here to begin with. Right?
So get out there and watch some videos, leave comments, and "likes" and start Subscribing to some You-Tube channels everyone!
