My name is Dominique and I have been vidding since 2009. My first program was WMM, but I've since moved around from Sony Vegas to now Final Cut Pro X. My very first fandom was BtVS (okay so Gilmore Girls, but who counts a slideshow? So what if I spent 10+ hrs on it...). Something about it just inspired me to vid. Oh okay, so maybe it was just Spuffy lol. I think most of my early works were entirely Spuffy vids haha.
Vidding is one of main passions and it's been this way for me since my very first vid. One of my others (if I briefly discount music lol) is writing. I LOVE to write. I've been writing my own stories since I was six and I had my first story published at 13. I've also been working on a novel since I was 12 (so almost seven years). I hope to complete it one day, but I've been struggling with writer's block on and off for awhile now and haven't managed to complete a final draft that I have been satisfied with yet.
Anyway (I swear this all ties together) a few months ago, when I opened my awards site, Beneath the Rose Awards (short for "The Truth Beneath the Rose" a song by Within Temptation; it's also briefly worth noting here that I have an obsession with red roses lol), I realized I also wanted to do something else with it. So many people get so little recognition for their work. As a vidder myself, I understand exactly how long it takes to make a vid, as well as how much effort gets put into it. I know I sometimes feel like I've put my heart and soul into my works. This is how the idea for "Video of the Week Review" came about. Once a week (obviously), I selected one of my favorite videos and did a complete break down review of it. I tried to analyze every aspect and get inside the head of the vidder who made it.
After sometime of doing that (I've reviewed 9 vids so far I believe), I decided that I still wasn't doing enough to give back to the vidding community. So I resolved to open another page on my website, called "Around the Web" where I would list vids that I liked throughout the week and give them sentence write-ups. That's about the time that I remembered that I'm a college student in the middle of a semester and realized that there was no way I could keep up with that (at this time).
For a week after that, I was very aggravated with myself and my lack of a way to give back even more, and then Vidders Digest happened. I was out walking my dog, when I got an idea for an online newspaper devoted entirely to vidding run by a crew of vidders. A mixture of the perfect way to give back as well as a way for people to find great videos a lot easier, rather than painstakingly searching for them. Thus, the birth of the site you're looking at right now.
The people that are listed along with me on the staff bio page are the wonderful amazing people that answered those annoying emails I sent out that basically screamed, "please help me!" and, instead of running away in fear, chose to contribute to what I hope will be a truly wonderful site that everyone can use. So check out their bios :) (ooh creepy smiley haha) and thanks for taking the time to read mine.
