Interview with Nyah86Production
1. How, why, and what made you decide to start vidding?
I started vidding a couple of years ago when I discovered fanvideos on Youtube. At that moment I'd had already edited private projects (home and birthday videos) and I thought vidding shows and movies might be fun so I gave it a try.
2. What fandom did you first vid?
My very first video was a period drama video for the movie "Mansfield Park" to the Evanescence song "Solitude". Afterwards I vidded Doctor Who.
3. What program did you start out on?
I started with Pinnacle Studio 12 if I remember it right but I also edited a couple of fanvids with Windows Movie Maker. Needles to say that they sucked. *laughs*
4. What program do you use now?
I'm using Pinnacle Studio HD Ultimate, Adobe After Effects CS5 and Adobe Photoshop CS5.
5. What is your inspiration for vidding?
That's a good question. I get my inspiration from all kinds of sources. Sometimes it's a song, sometimes it's a certain scene in a tv-show/movie, sometimes it's a pairing and sometimes I even get my inspiration from fanfiction.
6. What comes first? the music for the idea or the idea for music?
I would say that most of the times I'm having an idea/concept in my head and I already know what clips I want to use to do the story. I'm looking for a suitable song afterwards.
7. What type music do you like to vid to? Pop, rock, dubstep, etc.
I usually use instrumentals from movie soundtracks but I also love to use rock music and occasionally dubstep.
8. Canon or AU vids?
Both. ;-) Even though I love AU vids because there are always very challenging.
9. What is your favorite type of vid to vid? Drama, action, character studies, etc.
I love to vid trailers or videos with storylines.
10. What are your favourite Pairings/Characters to vid and why?
Hmm. That depends on the fandom. If I'm vidding Supernatural I love to do Castiel or Destiel videos but I'm also doing general videos for the fandom aswell. I also love the Sherlock/Molly pairing (BBC Sherlock).
11. Do you use a Beta?
Not on all of my videos but sometimes it's great to have a beta when you're stuck and you need a second opinion.
12. Do storyboard or make notes (what's your vidding process)?
My first step is to go through the material and to look for the scene's I'd like to use. Afterwards I'm writing a concept with the scenes and voice-overs so I have a fully structured plan on how to edit a video before I even open my editing program.
13. Do you, or have you been, involved with collaborations?
Yes, I've been in a couple of collabs (mainly for the shows Merlin and Supernatural)
14. What is your favorite vid that you have made?
O God, how can you ask that? That's like choosing your favourite child! *laughs* Hmmm. Maybe my "Shell Shocked Official Trailer" video? I really don't know!

15. Who is your favorite vidder?
That would be KatrinDepp without a doubt. Amazing vidder on so many levels.
16. Are there any vidders who inspire you?
Lots of vidders are outstanding. To list them all would take ages but those are the one's that spontaniously come to my mind at the moment: KatrinDepp, Soupshop, 404ing, SecretlyToDream, Sunnseanicarts, SmokeyFiizz, Seduff, di0br, 0RainbowProductions, Estaaaas, ILoveThesePeople and many many more...
17. What is your favorite video that you have seen (not including your own)?
This is actually an "oldie" from 2008 but it's still amazing:
We Will Meet Again (The Doctor & Rose) by Seduff
If I remember it right it was one of the videos that inspired me to try vidding myself.
18. What is your favorite thing about the vidding community?
Every single one in the community is really nice and I made lots of good friends through Youtube. I even met a couple of vidders in real life. It feels like we're one big family! :-)
